Boys Basketball: Challenging Season? No Problem

With only three games left this year, the boys’ basketball team has faced a challenging season. In recent games they displayed their skills against competitors such as South Side and Northgate. The team has been challenging their opponents all season. This includes the few games where they fell just short. For example, the game against their rival, South Side, ended with Freedom only five points behind. Assistant Coach Nathan Langelli is proud of his team. “Even though we’ve had a lot of close [games]… they really pulled together as a team,” Langelli said. In fact, as the end of the season approaches, Langelli is astounded at the boys’ spirit and determination. “Overall it’s a pretty good atmosphere,” Langelli said. Upcoming games pit the bulldogs against Sto Rox, Carlynton and Quaker Valley. Though it’s tough competition, the team refuses to surrender. “We haven’t gotten as many wins as we’d hope for, but [nobody] quit. They’re willing to keep trying hard to get some more wins before the season is over,” Langelli said. The team hopes to improve next year in numbers and technique, but their future remains unclear. “Right now there are 15 guys on JV and Varsity. Seven of them are seniors,” Langelli said.
