FHS hires new athletic director: Mr. John Rosa

As of May 1 officially, Mr. John Rosa is the new athletic director (AD) for the FHS, taking the place of fill-in AD Mr. Robert Gallagher. Enduring a three month interview process, Mr. Rosa was chosen from 32 applicants to accept the responsibilities of a high school athletics director. Those obligations include scheduling meets and games all year, organizing buses, helping the school board to hire coaches, ordering supplies, and managing the new budget for next year to attempt to keep all varsity sports. Dr. Staub said that Mr. Rosa was the ideal AD because he is an experienced coach, has a passion for athletics, and as a faculty member, he knows the kids and is located in the building. “He’s here, he’s accessible, he’s a resource,” Dr. Staub said. As well as his new AD job, Mr. Rosa is also the president of the teachers’ union, the junior class sponsor and a member of the mathematics department. According to Dr. Staub, his teaching responsibilities will be reduced to compromise time for his new job. Mr. Rosa has been a member of the Freedom faculty since 1990, and has since then coached four different sports. “I’m at my best when I’m busiest,” he said. As junior class sponsor, during prom season Mr. Rosa becomes very consumed with the upcoming events. Next year at this time he will be juggling his regular classes, putting together the many prom activities, and maintaining organization of all spring sports. “I have a lot of faculty willing to help,” he said.
