Golf: It’s the Pants

Unlike any other sport, each shot you take in golf counts against you. There isn’t much room for error, which is why choosing the right equipment is so important. “Most golfers on the team will only play one type of golf ball,” said Coach Fitzpatrick. Since golf can be a very stressful sport, some golfers are particular about their equipment; so, to ease the tension, some golfers never switch brands. “I only use Titleist,” Junior Nick Schwab said about his golf ball choice. Though, not everyone has such strict views on their golf ball preference. For some golfers, its all about apparel. Colin Macon even has his lucky pair of pants for rainy days and important matches. After doing well he always makes it clear “It’s the pants,”he says Other rituals are a bit stranger. “Since we’ve been at Shadow Lakes, we’ve always put someone in a locker… briefly,” Schwab said. A select few golfers have a different understanding of golf. “I think if you’re a truly good golfer, you shouldn’t have to worry about superstitions,” Junior Brandon Bionda said. While superstition is an age old practice, the golf team this year expanded on last year’s team greatly. Part of that expansion is the golf boosters program. “It is completely new,” said Mr. Fitzpatrick. This year, the golf team has held numerous sales in order to raise funds. The team has also grown to 11 members. This year the golf team welcomes Christian Edder, Christian Skogsholm, Zac Wilson, Jessica Canonge and Patrick Baker. Fortunately, they’re all fitting in nicely. According to Coach Fitzpatrick, “It’s a pretty tight-knit group.” And Fitzpatrick’s claim seems to hold up. Bionda said he enjoys spending time at the end of the day, “hanging out with my friends and playing golf.”
