Grabbin’ Grub

With the very limited amount of things to do here in scenic Beaver County, the thing us teens seem to do most (without sounding like we’re obese) is to go out with friends for food. Now, I know that everyone is a big fan of fast food. Everybody likes their McDonald’s, Burger King, and my personal favorite Taco Bell. The Crunch Wrap, by the way, is the best invention known to man. Everyone gets sick of eating the same old food though. It’s always nice to go to a sit-down restaurant and just chill with some friends. It’s very surprising to see how many restaurants there are in our area. Now I know what your thinkin’, “That’s great, I’m going to read through this whole stupid article to find out that the best restaurant around here serves the kind of food that I hate.” Don’t worry, man. I got you covered. I personally like all kinds of food. So I’ll let you in on all the good spots to grab some grub. If you’re into Chinese, like me, I would recommend House of Lee on Ohio River Blvd in Pittsburgh, right before you hit the city. They have the best Crab Rangoon and Eggrolls around. The Crab Rangoon is crabmeat and cream cheese mixed together in a shell and then deep fried. It may not sound very appetizing, but believe me, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. They have Wonton soup as well. If you’re into the buffet kind of thing, then your best bet is Dynasty Buffet in Cranberry. They have the largest assortment of Chinese food around. If you’re feeling freaky, you can eat frog legs, chicken feet, cuddle fish, and mini octopi. If that creeps you out, there are other choices. I know that some will love those interesting Chinese dishes, but a lot might just be looking for a good place to get a burger or sandwich. Well my friend I would tell you to go to Thursdays in Bridgewater, or Bert’s Wooden Indian in Beaver. Thursdays has a great Rueben sandwich. They always pile on a ton of corned beef, Sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on Marble Rye, and toast it to perfection. The Wooden Indian has, in Brian McSorely’s opinion, “the best fish sandwich of any restaurant around.” Their Beer-Battered Haddock Sandwich is a monster of a sandwich. They have better curly fries than Arby’s, and that’s saying something. I know everyone likes Taco Bell, but if you want a more authentic Mexican restaurant, you should try out Azul. It is a very authentic restaurant in Leetsdale. I have only gone a couple of times, but I can tell you that you can’t go wrong with the steak fajitas. They also have a good seafood burrito, which has a more authentic, un-Americanized sauce on it, though I just didn’t like it as much as Chi Chi’s back in the day. I know that growing up here in America, all of us teenagers have pizza about once a week. Everyone seems to have their favorite place to go for that great slice of heaven. To me, the large chains that sell pizza just can’t hold up to the family businesses here in the valley that serve up those delicious pies. This was the hardest category for me to decide. My family orders pizza constantly, and we get it from somewhere different all the time. We’ve tried just about every pizza place around. It came down to two for me though for the top spot. Buzzie’s in Rochester and D&G Pizza in Beaver Falls. Yes, I know they opened one in Monaca, but trust me, it’s not the same. Buzzie’s Pizza has amazing crust and is always fresh and delicious. They have good pepperoni too! But I think I’m going to have to give this one to D&G Pizza. The main reason is they pile, and I mean pile, toppings onto their pizza. Their mushroom pizza is to die for! The people there pile on the mushrooms an inch high. They also have delicious steak hoagies, and their meatball hoagies are nothing to laugh at either. So, even though I enjoy Buzzie’s it’s still a close second to D&G. Alright, so next time you’re out with your friends and can’t decide where to go, you have an idea. Maybe you didn’t think any of these sounded good enough to satisfy your hunger. Maybe you’re still just a little unsure about which sounded best to you. If you thought they all sounded good, my overall pick would be House of Lee. So take your pick. Either way, you’re a winner. So go get your grub on!
