Mrs. McNaughton

What is spontaneous, interactive, has dread locks and says Ni Hao? That’s right, the new Chinese language teacher, Mrs. McNaughton, or as her students know her, Han Laoshi. Mrs. McNaughton was super excited to land this job, because she loves “everything about the location, environment, everyone here is friendly and supportive.” She is all about teaching her students in new and exciting ways and says she’s not just “spouting ridic” when it comes to her classroom. “She’s funny, she lets us play games, she is a really good teacher, she always makes time for questions, and she gets to know each and every student,” said seventh grader Sandy Vacca. Mrs. McNaughton teaches the middle school and the high school daily. Mrs. McNaughton believes that learning should be fun and she “loves the move the school has” in teaching with all the new technology and fast-forward learning techniques. Her classes are filled with lots of interaction and she does a lot of one on one working with her students. During the first few weeks, her students learned a lot more than the average student learns, and she is so proud of them that she says “I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about it.” Mrs. McNaughton says that having a child and being a teacher goes hand in hand and she learns everyday from both and it makes her a better parent; it’s all about “loving your kids, motivating and inspiring your kids to do better.” She had a three year old and is having another baby in December. Something you may notice about Han Laoshi is her hair. She has been growing it that way for a little over two years. “It’s unusual and striking and those were always words my friends and family used to describe me,” she said. Unusual and striking are two great words that would describe her as a teacher and the way her students learn.
