Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend

This season, the girls softball team hopes to exceed all expectations people may have of them, have fun and be the best they can be. Senior Zoe Sayre feels that the leadership her fellow seniors possess will help them achieve greatness in the long run. "I admire all of us seniors for our amazingly fun and positive attitudes. I really hope we have left an imprint on the underclassmen with our ways," Sayre said. Senior Caitie Bohach feels that each girl on the team shares a common goal: to win. "I definitely admire that quality in all of my teammates. It’s even better that we all get along so well," Bohach said. Both Sayre and Bohach hope to finally make the playoffs, which if achieved will be the first time in their four years on the team. This year there is only one junior on the team, Hannah Mavrich. “[being the only junior] is kind of scary but also fun at the same time [being the only junior]. Sometimes some of the underclassmen are afraid to ask the seniors questions, or even for help. So they come to me. I think that’s pretty cool,” Mavrich said. Sophomore Tara Gardner said she hopes the team as a whole works hard and plays to their potential. “Our coach tells us all the time that if we make it to the playoffs, he will shave his head. We’re excited. Something like that is great motivation,” Gardner said. With there being seven seniors this year, thankfully enough freshmen decided to join the team. Freshmen Kali Ralston was able to specifically name some of her fellow senior teammates that she admires. “I love the fact Kylee [Wolf] is so small and skinny, but can throw like a rocket. Brittany [Mavrich] is amazing in the outfield. Literally everything that comes at her, she can get. Finally Leah [Moldovan], every time we’re in the batting cage, all the balls she hits are line drives back to the pitcher,” Ralston said. Along with the perils of being new to the team, Ralston’s older sister Kelsie, who graduated last year, was a fantastic player for the team. “Knowing my sister was such a big part of the team the last few years makes me want to be more like her, to be a leader and committed and dedicated to the sport. I do realize though that I have big shoes to fill,” Ralston said.
