Spaceships, test scores, competitive cheerleading and school ground plans were just some of the topics covered at the school board meeting Nov. 8. The meeting kicked off with the reading of a letter from Freedom alumni, Louis Petcovic, who is currently working with NASA as an international space station program engineer. One of many important issues brought up at the meeting was test score data gathered over the past four years. The scores presented and discussed were from ACT, SAT and PSSA tests. During the presentation, Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fuller mentioned that the scores could be helped through working with teachers to adjust curriculum. Another matter presented to those at the meeting was the possibility of the football and basketball cheerleaders at Freedom partaking in competitive cheerleading, which was presented by Athletic Director Mr. John Rosa. The possibility of this happening will rely on how interested the cheerleaders are in participating. The final matter discussed at the meeting focused on the plans and concerns for the single campus idea that will take place. One of the main concerns brought up by members of school board and those attending from the community were the mines under the future location of the football field. Although plans are being discussed, nothing is set in stone or a permanent decision. Final plans in regards to possible campus revision will be determined by a committee made up of administrators, faculty, staff, school board and community members.
