Effort and Dedication

With the piercing autumn air sweeping across the Bulldog soccer fields, the boys’ soccer season, like the beautiful weather of summer, came to an official end. Head Coach Bill Smith and the 2012 boys’ soccer team put up a fight for a playoff position, but they were unable to land a spot in playoffs this season. Difficulty in their section increased during this season because Freedom was placed in a double A (AA) league instead of their past single A (A) division. This season, the Freedom boys’ soccer team played teams such as Central Valley, Blackhawk and Hopewell. When they played in the single A division, the team faced against schools including Beaver County Christian School, Mohawk and Riverside. A team that was once considered one of the bigger soccer teams in the A division, the boys’ team was one of the smallest in AA division this season. Facing off against teams with 35 to 40 athletes on their rosters, Freedom played with a smaller roster of 22 players. “I feel like we somewhat underachieved this year. We came in with big expectations, but we didn’t fully meet them,” Senior Captain Matthew VanDeCar said. With effort and dedication strong in the attitudes of Freedom soccer players, some underclassmen look forward to a better season next year. “Next season we have high hopes,” Junior Lane Mankevich said. “We will try our best.”
