Fashion forward: Popular fashion trends for the upcoming season

It’s finally time to put the Carharts and Ugg boots to rest: May is here. And with it comes the opportune time for spring fashion to finally flourish. This small portion of Beaver County that we call Freedom might not have all the greatest high-end stores, but rest assured, this doesn’t mean that its inhabitants can’t take advantage of all that spring fashion has to offer. One main trend this spring is tremendous amounts of color. From pastels – which are paler and seemingly washed out colors – to all the brights imaginable under the rainbow. However, this particular trend might seem a tad overwhelming. Ladies can start out with a few bold accessories such as earrings or a necklace with an outfit that needs a splash of color. For those who aren’t afraid to dive into the impending wonderland of colors, try out a bright colored dress with a bold, jewel-toned necklace or belt. There is no reason for guys to be left out of this, so try a bright shirt accented by simple pants. Gentlemen who are feeling absolutely daring, don’t be afraid to try a bright pair of khaki colored pants rolled at the ankle with boat shoes, which look like loafers, but really aren’t, or sandals. The options are limitless. On the opposite end of the color spectrum is another trend that was quite prevalent on the runways: neutral colors. There’s a good chance that you have been in dark colors for all of fall and winter, why not change it up for a couple of months until the cycle of darkness begins again? Spring is a time of renewal and beginnings and that is just what this trend offers through shades of white and beige. These particular colors also look clean and fresh. Feel free to carry this color scheme out in any article of clothing for guys and ladies alike. Along with color this season, prints and patterns are also alive and well. For ladies, animal and floral prints are the most prominent. You can mix and match articles of clothing – at your own risk, with different prints, but please remember that each article of clothing must have at least one or more matching colors so you don’t look like you got dressed blindfolded. For the guys, maybe consider a striped rugby shirt or polo and plaid Bermuda shorts, but the call is yours. With the summer season fast approaching, nautical stripes would not do any harm for either guys or girls. Two favored and versatile trends from fall have progressed and dominated their way onto the runways of spring. They are lace and sheer articles of clothing. Please remember that you are at a school and not somewhere where see-through clothing is appropriate. Keep it classy, Freedom! Lace has transformed from its dark beginnings last fall to light and airy tops, dresses, and skirts in varying shades of neutral and pale. Sheer fabrics have followed in the footsteps of lace and grown accustomed to the breezy feel of spring. If you’re concerned about a wardrobe malfunction while changing classes, feel free to wear a light tank top or two underneath either to make sure that you are covered and stay cool. Flip flops with embellishments, woven wedges, and almost any sandal or heel will make any of these outfits this season. For guys, make sure to consider boat shoes or sandals as well. Give the Nikes a break. Also, if you’re looking for inspiration on how to exactly wear some of the popular trends this season, remember that there are a ton of fashion blogs and sites along with magazines. Some popular fashion sights are whowhatwear.com, lookbook.nu and fashiontoast.com. All of these sites offer great examples from ordinary people all over the world along with celebrities. If you’d rather have a magazine to consult, your best bets are Marie Claire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle and Teen Vogue.
