Fiddler on the Roof

This year’s musical production started off with a bang! Friday night began the weekend long festivities for Freedom’s drama club. Four months of hard work finally paid off for the cast of “Fiddler on the Roof.” Friday night was a nearly sold out show with a packed audience. While there were no teachers on stage this year, the students did a spectacular job entertaining the audience by all by themselves. “Fiddler on the Roof” was full of bittersweet memories for many participants. The cast is losing a large group of seniors that have all had a major impact on Freedom’s drama club. “My favorite part is being able to form such amazing friendships and making so many memories that will never be forgotten,” Senior Caitie Bohach said. “Being able to say, “Freedom drama rules” is truly one of the greatest feelings and blessings I could ever have.” “Fiddler on the Roof”, a musical set in 1905 that examines the progression of Jewish traditional values, was a little more different than the musicals Freedom has done in the past. “The thing that sets this musical apart from others is that it was very serious and solemn with not much, but some, humor,” senior Austin Bailey said. There were several intricate and entertaining dance scenes in this year’s production; each more enjoyable than the last. “I think my favorite scene was the bottle dance. It was really interesting to see the crowd react to the dancers,” Senior Joey Brunner said. Fiddler not only had an amazing turn out, but also several standing ovations. “Fiddler was a different show from what we normally do. This did not have a happy ending but this show had a lot to offer. I would even go to say this was the best show we’ve done (apart from Joseph). This show had everyone working together,” Senior Zach Malinak said, “All I can say to the underclassmen is that they have big shoes to fill. Never give up on Freedom Drama and never give half the effort. If you want something, work to the hardest of your abilities. That’s how I got where I am today.” Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of “Fiddler on the Roof” on a truly spectacular performance.
