Freedom Area High School’s Most Contagious Disease

Freedom Area Senior High School has been hit by an incurable virus and no, we’re not talking about swine flu. We are talking about the dreaded senioritis or idontwanttoworkcuzitssunnyoutside-itis. This time of year brings out the absolute worst in every student whether you are a senior or an underclassman. The many symptoms of senioritis are unavoidable. These symptoms include, but are not limited to: laziness, missed deadlines, drowsiness, and apathy. The reason that seniors develop this disease is because they only have one month of classes left and no longer want to work. Most of these students already have been accepted to their colleges and do not feel the need to continue their studies. Due to senioritis, anyone examining the senior class grades at the end of the year would find a dramatic drop during the fourth nine weeks. Underclassmen have also been known to be subject to similar symptoms. They however, do not have the excuse of being a senior. Therefore, they have developed idontwanttoworkcuzitssunnyoutside-itis. Reasons that these symptoms are obtained by the underclassman is because of the weather and the heat. As children of Pennsylvania, we were taught that when is sunny and warm outside it means that summer is coming or summer is already here. Since students think that summer is near, their brains completely shut down and stop trying. Although both seniors and underclassman do not “feel” like working it does not give them an excuse for not trying. For seniors it is important to finish on a strong note so that they can carry on momentum towards college. Underclassmen must finish strong through May and June so that when colleges look at their grades, they will be acceptable. Overcoming senioritis and idontwanttoworkcuzitssunnyoutside-itis is not easy, but if one works hard it will pay off in the future.
