Future for Classrooms

“[Blended curriculum is] where the world is going,” Mrs. Anderson said. Freedom’s e2020 courses are now being held in Room 213 under the supervision of Mrs. Anderson and her aid, Mrs. Willis. Currently there are around 60 students in the e2020 program varying from students in credit recovery to the various classes that are offered in an online version. Some students do not excel in a traditional classroom, which is why PA Cyber is so alluring to high school students. What Freedom is trying to do, however, is give students the option to have some traditional and cyber classes. All of the online classes are offered through the e2020 program, which was introduced last year. This home-based program is used to give students the opportunities of a cyber curriculum with a Freedom diploma. These classes include computer programming, Spanish, practical applications, Chinese and multimedia. As the program grows, Anderson hopes to acquire more classes for students. Anderson also said that because Freedom is a brick and mortar school, the district was forced to adapt in order to compete with PA Cyber. Several students have indeed returned to Freedom after having previously dropped for PA Cyber. Many schools in the state are instilling cyber options; Freedom isn’t the first, but is certainly on the forefront of this new schooling method. The thing that makes Freedom so unique is that the school is using its own teachers for the cyber classes. According to Mr. Dadich, the future for this program is far beyond what Freedom students ever imagined. He hopes that one day the school will be able to set up internships with companies before graduation, providing students with a very customized and individualized education.
