Highway to fame: Trevor Douglas’ journey to stardom

Next big pop artist or next Bill Nye? Trevor Douglas is a 16-year-old singer from Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to being a singer, songwriter, composer and musician, Douglas is an actor in both film and theater productions. He performs jazz and hip-hop dancing and plays the piano, ukulele and guitar. He uses his guitar, which he named Melvin, as both an acoustic and percussive instrument.

Douglas has had extensive performing experience compared to the average 16-year-old. He mostly performed at outside venues after big concerts were held, but in the past year he has appeared on “Channel 47’s The Broadcast,” performed at Dallas Stars and UT Arlington Basketball games and performed a two hour Jonas Brothers’ pre-show at GEXA’s Heineken Lounge. But most recently, Douglas is known for being on season 14 of “American Idol.”
Douglas’ first appearance on “American Idol” was his audition in Nashville, Tennessee. He impressed the judges by performing “Sing” by Ed Sheeran and received one of the famous gold tickets to Hollywood. Not only was his actual audition memorable, but so was his character and personality.

“My back up plan if the music thing doesn’t work out, I’ll be like the next Bill Nye,” Douglas said. During Hollywood week, Douglas sang a beautiful version of another Ed Sheeran song called “I See Fire.” After making it through another week, he gave a joyful, energetic performance of Elvis Presley’s “Burning Love” at the House of Blues. After making it through to the top 12 boys, Douglas then sang “Best I Ever Had” by Gavin DeGraw.

Although he gave another very energetic performance, the judges felt that it wasn’t his best performance vocally and America didn’t vote him through into the top eight boys’ category.

Even though Douglas’ “American Idol” journey ended sooner than he may have anticipated, he’s still going to pursue music and try to make a career out of it. This is certainly not the end of Douglas’ singing, but only the beginning. Just because he got voted off “American Idol,” doesn’t mean that he can’t sing.

You can find videos of Douglas singing on his own YouTube channel or on American Idol’s channel. If you find that you really like him and his singing you can follow and subscribe to him on “YouTube” and many other social media sites at TrevorDmusic.

Douglas also makes very unique covers of songs by using loop pedals. Loop pedals are when a back track for the song is recorded while performing on stage during certain parts of the song. These can be played over for the artist to continue singing. Douglas posts these performances on “Youtube.”

Some of Douglas’ loop pedals include Justin Bieber’s “All Around the World,” Gavin DeGraw’s “Best I Ever Had,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Love,” possibly the best one yet.

Just because Douglas didn’t win the competition, doesn’t mean he can’t make it in the music industry. He not only has a very unique sounding voice, but he also shows a lot of passion and charisma while performing. So don’t let this very talented individual fade away, go check out his singing today.
