New Student Teacher: Learning From the Best

Mr. Little is the newest face in the high school, and he usually can be found in Ms. Ionta’s classroom getting a better feel for teaching. Mr. Little attended Blackhawk high school before going on to receive a Bachelor’s in history from Slippery Rock University. He is currently working toward his master’s degree from Western Governor’s University, which is an online college. “It’s never been too hard [knowing what job I wanted]” said Mr. Little about whether he always wanted to go into teaching. “I’ve always had it in me, and I’ve always wanted to teach high school.” While working at this goal, he became a student teacher last year at Big Knob Elementary school to gain teaching experience. He was working under Ms. Crouch when Mr. Edder – the principal at the time – approached him about a job at the elementary school. He was asked to help Mrs. Lacey teach the special education students. He said yes, and has had experience working with students in kindergarten through second grade because of his work at Big Knob. Mr. Little said he would like to work at Freedom when he is done with his student teaching program. “It’s very unique because I know how the elementary school works and how the high school works. It’s unique being able to see the students entering school and also be able to see students about ready to leave school,” Mr. Little said.
