FONTAINE AWARDED T.H.I.N.K. AWARD
Each month, students from every grade level vote for one teacher to receive the Tenacious, Helpful, Inspirational, Notable, Knowledgeable. (T.H.I.N.K.) award. Students vote through a survey that is received in their emails. This month, the award was given to a Special Education teacher, Ms. Jessica Fontaine.
STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AS FEBRUARY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Kimberly Streb (9), Finn Hershey (9), Julia Bair (10), Wyatt Miller (10), Mia Roncevich (11), Landon Palka (11), Trinity Vojtko (12) and Bryson Deal (12). These students were chosen for the theme of ‘Role Model Award’ for February, and were all acknowledged at the school board meeting on Feb. 5.
PRITCHARD NOMINATED FACULTY MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to February’s faculty member of the month, Ms. Abby Pritchard, the high school Life Skills Teacher. Each month, a faculty member is selected and recognized for their contributions to the school’s academics and culture. The recipient is nominated by their fellow staff members during the monthly faculty meeting.
STUDENTS COMPETE AT SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION
On Feb. 6, Performing Arts students traveled to the Pittsburgh Public Theater to perform in the 32nd Annual Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Competition. Before the competition, students would practice a scene or monologue from one of William Shakespeare’s works. On competition day, they performed in front of a panel of judges. Over 1,000 students from 80 schools in the Pittsburgh Area competed in preliminary rounds over the course of several weeks. Any student who scored well enough to move on to the finals at the O’Reilly Theater were notified on Feb. 20. Abigail Hunter and Brandon Yeager were Grand Prize winners for their performance as Ophelia and Hamlet. Caroline Bender and Nora Powers were third runners up as Juliet and The Nurse, and Hannah Shaffer earned an honorable mention for her performance as Lady Macbeth.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATES IN POLAR PLUNGE
On the morning of Feb. 21, a group of volunteers from the district joined others across the county to jump into the Beaver River. Thirteen school faculty members wore matching Bulldog t-shirts to the event, naming themselves the “Freedom Cold Canines.” In total, the community was able to raise roughly $3,800, which was donated for the Special Olmypics. The elementary school raised $2,000 of towards the total amount.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT NAMED “BIG OF THE YEAR”
In early February, Dominic Severin (12) was nominated “Big of the Year” for the school’s chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). Severin has been a member of the program since his freshman year, and he has maintained a solid attendance record. He will be recognized at a celebratory dinner in late April.
