Softball team proposes new fundraiser idea

When it comes to classic, all-American foods to eat at ball games, nothing beats out hot dogs. When it comes to watching our favorite Lady Bulldogs playing a real sport, nothing beats out softball. So when these two are combined, what happens? Pure Freedom awesomeness; this is what happened on April 13, when the Freedom softball team went up against New Brighton in the very first "Dogs for Dawgs" day. This game was exactly the same as any other game, except you won’t see Dr. Staub cooking up and handing out hot dogs to anyone at any other game. Despite a loss to New Brighton, the "Dogs for Dawgs" day was a complete success. There were more people attending this game than any other, and the fact that one needed to wear a Freedom-related shirt to get a hotdog shot school spirit through the roof. Even through the success of the "Dogs for Dawgs" day, the soft ball team has not been fairing well this season. With a record of 1-8, the team is not quite living up to their standards from last year. “They’re battling hard but coming up short,” said Coach Burger, when asked how the season was going. Despite this, the team is not even close to giving up. The season is nearly half over now, but Coach Burger, as well as the rest of the team plan on finishing strong. With strong returning players as well as new freshman on the team, there is no doubt that they will put some victories under their belts by the end of the season. Regardless, the softball team has come up with a brand new idea to promote school spirit: Dogs for Dawgs. This idea, which was thought up by none other than Coach Burger herself, will be used by both the track team and the baseball team, with the latter doing their’s the first week of May.
