Student government

In the past, student government has not played a major role in FHS, but with the new changes to the Senior class, there are high hopes of changing that. This year the Senior class student government has abruptly implemented some new ideas on how it’s going to be run. To start, a Senior class committee has been created to help the traditional four officers make decisions. The idea is to create diversity so that it isn’t just four people making the important decisions for the class, rather a group of a variety of students. By increasing the number of people involved in the senior class government, they hope to set an example to the other classes and get more students involved as well. As far as changing the not-so-involved student government, Mrs. Porter, a Senior class representative, said she would like to see possible monthly meetings that include every member of student government. Students also need to implement creative changes so that what we see this year isn’t just more of the same. For example: new fundraising ideas — especially now that all the food-related fundraisers won’t be allowed — and forming a more active student body overall. Part of creating a strong student government is opening up communication between the students and administrators. For students this may seem like a tough task, but with effort, can be done and is certainly one of the goals for this year.
