Throughout every game and hardship in sports, there is a student section behind it cheering them on to keep going and to get that win. The student section is one of the most important parts of every sport, whether it is at a home or away game. Many of these students will go to cheer their school on and try to boost morale for their team when they are in a rough spot.
At the football games, many of the student section will try to join in on the cheerleaders to cheer with them. One of the cheers that the student section would try to join in is called “Catch the Wave.” During the cheer, the entire student section would join the girls from the stands.
“Yeah they [the student section] do join in quite often,” Aliana Millward (9) said. “Their favorite chant to do with us is the three big booms.”
The student section has been consistent with their numbers. There have been roughly 25 to 35 kids cheering on the football team or the volleyball team. The students have been loud and motivating for each team that they cheer for, trying to bring them closer to victory or keep the athletes’ heads up so that they can go and keep fighting to bring the game to a good ending with a good fight.
Supporting one’s school sports team brings encouragement to the team one is cheering on and many athletes believe that a student section can be beneficial towards the game you are at. It can be the difference between a win or a loss. During the soccer game after the bonfire many students would go to the game after the bonfire to cheer their team on.
“Just from experience at the homecoming game for our soccer game, there were a bunch of people because of the bonfire after the parade, and they came over to the soccer game,” Jalen Mohrbacher (12) said. “It brought an incredible atmosphere and I think it really pushed [the soccer team] to be better because it brings in energy you don’t always have in every game. It brings in new people and new faces you want to play for.”
A student section is a place where many students can get together, get to know one another and make some friends who cheer along with them. Students get to watch their school team win that game, and even help the athletes get over their obstacles. Even though the student section does not play they sport, they provide their support through spectating and cheering.
“A student section definitely hypes up the sideline and it definitely brings up the energy and hypes everyone up to make more plays,” Benjamin Glass (10) said.
