Students Gain Three New Classes

Another year, another round of courses that arejust like the same old classes we’ve taken over and over again, but harder.Right? Wrong! This year, good old Freedom has made several new courses available for us students to take. These include Print Media Workshop,Multimedia II, and Robotics. Print Media, taught by Mr. Hartman, is a class in which students work together to create the FHSPress as well as the yearbook. Mr. Hartman believes this will be a great opportunity for the yearbook to become something really amazing this year; having a class focused on it gives students more initiative to participate. Also, all of the work put into the newspaper will make it twice as great as it was last year, with more even more writers working twice as hard. If writing, layouts, or photography is your thing, think about checking out Print Media. If you’re more into the scientific side of construction, Robotics could be for you. Taught by Mr.Pickard, this class allows students to work with machinery to create robots.Theygain teamwork, collaboration, and engineering skills as they work together to construct robotic creations that they are then able to enter in competitions. Mr. Pickard took a class at Carnegie Mellon specifying in the tools he and his students will need in order to construct these robots. Pickard says that it is a learning experience for both him and his students as they all work together on the robots, controlling them both byremote control and autonomously, or by human input. He has high hopes for hisclass this year. If you’re more into computers, be sure to check outMultimedia II, taught by Mrs. Milonovich. The goal of this class is for students to highlight events of the school. They work together with DTV, newspaper and yearbook to form one collective department of students. They will work together to create commercials and features of school-related events, presenting them on DTV. So, if you are looking for a newchallenge, or are interested in one of the above fields, think about taking one of our school’s new classes.
