Tipping off the season: Girls’ basketball team begins with ‘bigger and better things’

With the loss of four seniors after the 2013- 2014 season, the Girls’ Basketball team left last season with shoes to fill in the upcoming season.

“It’s definitely hard losing our seniors from last year, because they were a huge part of the team; how we played and acted as a team,” Junior Courtney Susan said.

The girls’ prepared for their season with practices everyday in the high school gymnasium after school and Sunday nights as well.

“We as coaches are encouraging the girls to challenge themselves and each other everyday in practice to bring out the best in each player,” Coach Jon Kaercher said.

With the girls’ preparing themselves for the season everyday, they have a chance to fully prepare for their upcoming games, as well as the upcoming season.

“We have been preparing for this season by really working on our skill and running through our plays, so we don’t fall apart during a game,” Susan said.

The girls played in the New Brighton Tip-off on Dec. 5 and 6. The girls won against New Brighton on Dec. 51-27. The girls’ lost on Dec. 6 62-25 against Beaver.

“I am going to miss this year’s seniors because they are really good at playing basketball and they have helped us a lot,” Junior Deanna Drobka said.

“I think this is going to be a fun year; I believe we will go far. We made playoffs last year but I think we can go further this year,” Senior Madison Daubenspeck said.

“I believe that the juniors this year are going to have to step up a lot, I think they will be able to do it,” Daubenspeck said.

The Girl’s Basketball team, coached by Kaercher, worked their way to the playoffs during last year’s season.

“We are expecting bigger and better things this year. We as coaches are encouraging the girls to challenge themselves and each other everyday in practice to bring out the best in each player,” Kaercher said.
