When I was 17: Mrs. Russell

Q: How would you describe your personality at the age of 17? A: I was pretty bubbly and a bit of a shy streak. Q: What activities were you involved in? A: I was big into the band, I was in National Honors Society, French Club, I went up to French 4, actually. I was in the school play as a senior; I played the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. I was in the ski club, not really athletic, you know, just into academics and the humanities. Q: What was your favorite aspect of high school? A: I think my favorite aspect of high school was being involved in as much as I could possibly do. I really wanted to quote on quote suck the marrow out of school. When I graduated, I really didn’t think I’d be coming back; little did I know, I’d be teaching here. Q: Did you know any of the other current teachers at FHS? A: I went to school with Mrs. Neidbala, Mrs. Miller down in the middle school, Mrs. Shink in elementary [and] Mrs. VanDeCar at Big Knob. Q: How much has Freedom changed since you were 17? A: There are a few teachers who are still here that I had; namely, I was in Mr. Shepherd’s very first 7th grade math class; he wore tie-dyed [shirts] all the time. Other than that, everything has changed, even the appearance of the building.
