With the basketball season beginning, the cheerleaders look forward to showing off their new additions to the winter team. Along with last year’s winter cheer squad, the fall cheerleaders will be present on the court to cheer on the basketball team. The teams conjoined due to the lack of participation in previous years.
To add to the excitement, the cheer team got new winter cheer uniforms. They added black coloring and sparkles, which is different from the traditional, red-and-white outfits. The new uniforms have brought a lot of excitement to the team. The switch in colors, with their fall uniforms being primarily red and white, have made the team feel as if this season is a new chapter.
The girls are ecstatic about the new additions to the season beyond their new uniforms, including their new halftime routine.
“I really like it, especially now that we have new uniforms and we get to dance for the halftime show,” Aliana Miliward (9) said.
In this halftime routine, the girls got to feature their new squad and uniforms. This is the first year in awhile the cheerleaders had a halftime performance, which has brought a lot of excitement to the team. They ended fall cheer practices in October and had two weeks off until winter practice started up again. To prepare for their halftime performance, they started practicing in November so they would be completely ready.
“I’m glad there are more cheerleaders now, because they will produce more energy from the crowd, making it a lot louder,” Malikhi Rippy-Piersol (10) said.
The boys are enthusiastic to have the girls there to cheer them on. Having the cheerleaders cheer for the boys will bring a lot of excitement and energy to the players and crowd. With the cheering from the girls, the basketball team will hopefully strive with the hype energy. Along with that, more people will want to come because they can participate in the cheerleader’s interactive cheers. This strong energy has been built off the tight bond the team has.
“We all got together at the end of the fall season and went to Texas Roadhouse. We also hangout and bond a lot during practices,” Savannah Hammel (9) said.
To create this connection, the team did several activities, such as dinners and personal hangouts.
During practice, the girls made sure to talk and hangout to get to know each other and become comfortable with their new team. To further unite the team and create a better bond, the girls made sure to do things outside of practice as well. For example, they had a “movie marathon.”
With all of the new additions to the cheer squad, the girls are excited they have such a tight bond to work with. The cheerleaders have many hopes for the season, but most of all, they hope to bring energy and excitement to the court.
