Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Well it may be a little late now, but on March 17, the majority of FHS was sporting their green and hoping for the luck of the Irish. The teachers came out decked in green and jeans, but this burst of festiveness on their part wasn’t due strictly to Saint Patty. Teachers around the school dressed in green and jeans in support of Tyler Sharpless and his family, each paying a donation of their choice for dressing down. Tyler Sharpless is in sixth grade in Freedom Middle School, inspiring the rest of the Freedom District to help out this young athlete. Sharpless used to play baseball for New Sewickley before a car accident that left him in a coma. Since Sharpless came out of a coma, he has been in and out of Children’s Hospital, but, amazingly, he has recently returned to Freedom Middle School with only the use of a walker aiding him. “I would give money even if they were just coming around and collecting for it; this is just a fun way of doing it,” said Mrs. Giammaria, who participated in this fundraiser, green flip flops and all. By simply putting on their most comfortable jeans and a brightly colored top, teachers and faculty members at Freedom High School are making a difference in this young man’s life. At the conclusion of this one day event, the Freshman class had raised almost two hundred dollars to donate to the Sharpless family. St. Patrick’s day at FHS was a day of kissing the Irish and helping our peers.
