Unless you’ve been living in a bubble for the last few weeks, you’re already aware that Freedom High School is changing, starting off with the giant box now stationed at the front of the school. Rules are starting to be enforced, for the first time in a while. The most prominent two would be the rule on hats and class cuts. Mr. Delp and Dr. Staub have stationed the previously-stated box to dam the flow of hats that pour through the doors of FHS on a daily basis. While some may have anticipated more of a rebellion against this, Mr. Delp commented that the cooperation is a “testiment to the student body.” It’s a simple process: walk in with a hat, place it into the box, and pick it up at the end of the day. That should be easy enough for everyone. The rules about cutting classes are also drastically different from previous years. First period you cut, you are already starting off with in-school suspension. Choosing to cut one day of school piles up four class cuts and five out of school suspension days and a trip to the magistrate for truency. If you cut class five times, your name is going to the magistrate yet again and you’ve earned yourself the chance of possible expulsion. Is a trip to Burger King during study hall really worth that? Food and drink were also about to walk the plank, but Dr. Staub agreed to allow it based on each teacher’s discretion. Hopefully, rodents will be kept at bay as long as students keep the halls and classrooms clear of any nighttime munchies for them. A nice change that is now set in place (to those of you who had to park in the lower lot last year due to sophomores) is the numbered parking lot. Seniors had first pick of the spots up until Wednesday of the first week of school. Mr. Delp feels that “seniors have that right.” Then, selection opened up to juniors. If you park in the wrong spot, you will politely be kicked out. Thus, the chaos of parking that was dealt with last year won’t happen again. While new rules are often eventually forgotten about, it seems that this year they are here to stay. Only time will tell if these rules are set in stone, but it’s best to stick to going hat-less, going to class, going to a garbage can to dispose of food, and going to your correct parking spot.
