Recently, there has been a lot of speculation over when exactly the world is supposed to end. However, most of these dates are wrong. Doomsday is closer than we all thought. The world shall be consumed in fire when Freedom High School switches back to an eight class schedule. Or at least it seems that way by the reaction of the students. The only thing I’ve heard on the topic is that it’s a bad idea. So many people are asking why the administration is deliberating whether or not to switch the schedule. However, the real question we should be asking ourselves is: Does block scheduling waste class time or allow us to work more efficiently? In my eyes, it’s the latter. We waste so much time with block scheduling, time that could be spent learning is thrown away. One of the main arguments for block scheduling that I have heard is the load of homework. Apparently students will have to start investing in wheel barrows to manage it all. Now come on Freedom, I like exaggeration as much as the next guy, but seriously? Most of the schools around us have an eight class schedule. Are we not as hard working and intelligent as everyone else? Another argument used in the campaign against regular scheduling is the projects; apparently Freedom would have to give up its project-based learning for this. This isn’t the case. Think back to long, long ago, back to the years of middle school. Did you honestly never have projects? Think about it, we would still have the exact same amount of class time! It’s just not split up between two days! I really am slightly embarrassed by Freedom these days. It appears to me that no one has any inclination to work hard. Sure, with an eight class schedule we may have to put in a little bit more effort, but in reality, it shouldn’t matter. Everyone else manages with eight periods, so why can’t we?
