Around The World

Around The World was the theme chosen by the 2017 prom committee. The committee was led by Junior Class President Jon Kaercher. Preparations began months ago with fundraising events, such as hoagie sales and a spaghetti dinner held in the high school cafeteria. The committee members decorated the stage for the Grand March. The decorations included international flags and symbols from several countries.

The Grand March and Prom were held on May 12. Attendees were introduced as couples, friends or individuals. There were over 200 introductions. Once Ms. Kristen Milanovich, the master of ceremonies, finished announcing, everyone headed to the Marriott in Cranberry. Dinner was served. In addition to music, there was a tattoo artist, a caricature artist and a photo booth with props.

Everyone in attendance was encouraged to vote for a senior boy and a senior girl for 2017 Prom King and Queen. Every senior attending the prom was listed. Votes were cast by circling one boy and one girl. Prom King Joey Pail and Queen Maddie Edder shared a dance after their crowning.

“My senior prom was the best time of my life because I was with all of my friends and did not have a worry in the world,” senior Mackenzie Moldovan said.

Her favorite part of prom was when her and other members of the Class of 2017 formed a circle and sang.

Prom memories will last for first-time prom attendee sophomore Kassandra DePoppe. “Everyone danced with everyone and it felt like everyone was included,” She admits and notes that she was nervous with the thought of not being a part of the crowd. “Once the music started to play, you just fit right in and have a blast,” she added. DePoppe very much looks forward to prom next year as a junior.

Juniors are in charge of prom every year. Lack of fundraising in years past caused this committee to struggle in the beginning.

“All the time and dedication put into fundraising and setting up the stage for Grand March was well worth it. It was very enjoyable and made prom a blast,” Kaercher stated.
The annual event is much anticipated for various reasons.

“Always go to prom and have a good time because this was my last prom and I’m actually really sad,” Moldovan advises.
