Ask Yourself: Should I Get Involved?

When I go to school every morning the first thing I think about is seeingmy friends, what activity do I have after school, and is my homework done? Most people are involved with something, the question is, are you one ofthose people who are involved? I know most people don’t join something because they either don’t havetime, or don’t want to put forth the effort. But did it ever occur to you that your best friend in the entire worldcould be in something you secretly wanted to do? I know a lot of people, I have a lot of friends, and I never really thoughtI could use more. I was one of those people. But the more I got involved withdrama club, Spanish club, and cheer leading, the more friends I made and thehappier I am. We all hear the same speech about “get involved, you’ll thank me later” buta lot of people don’t get involved with extra curricular to ‘rebel’. Seriouslydo it for you, not for anyone else, the feeling of accomplishing something isan amazing feeling. For example, the musical, I was very hesitant to audition. I didn’t think Iwas good enough, and I’d get cut, or I wouldn’t make new friends, but Iauditioned and made it. It was a rocky start but in the end I made some amazingfriends. When you’re in a club or a sport those people become like family. Sure attimes you get sick of each other, but in the end it’s worth it. If I weren’t so involved with school like I am, I would miss out on meetingsome really great people. I know that it’s hard being the “new kid” for thosewho are new. I know it’s hard to talk to people if you’re a shy person. I just thinkthat everyone should do something good for himself or herself by doingsomething in High School. Join Band, Cheer, Football, Basketball. It doesn’t really matter what sport or activity, just don’t make themistake of not doing anything at all. So I say that the year is new, there’slots of clubs and extra curricular you can do to get involved in high school. Don’t be the rebellious one just to be the rebellious one. Think of thepeople you could meet, the new friends you can make, and the feeling ofaccomplishing something that could turn out to be great. So don’t sit around, get off your couch and come do something fantastic!
