Watching the field intently, members of the baseball team cheer on the players on the field. The game took place on Monday, May 8 against Northgate.

After ending their first scrimmage with a victory, the baseball team was hopeful for their upcoming season. They ended a few games with key victories, and they were able to balance their defeats. As a result, the team has been able to spend more time celebrating their victories together and reviewing new techniques after their losses. Being able to spend plenty of time together as a team enabled the Bulldogs to create everlasting memories related to their sport.

On Thursday, March 16, the Bulldogs beat Rochester at a home game, shutting them out by a score of 9-0. Four days later, the team also beat Carlynton, with the final score being 18-0. Despite numerous successes, the Bulldogs still ran into multiple obstacles. On both Monday, May 3, and Tuesday, May 4, the Bulldogs lost to South Side. Monday’s game closed with a score of 15-0, and Tuesday’s finished with a score of 17-0. The team ended with a section record of 4-10.

“Our team bonding has definitely grown since the beginning of the season. We have a stronger bond compared to last season. Practices contributed a lot to the team’s bonding. My favorite times were talking in the outfield with Chase [Grable] and Gaevin [Sanders]. I feel like I have a family outside of my actual family this year,” Daniel Lewis said.

On Monday, May 8, the baseball team honored their seniors after their final home game. The game was played against Northgate. Beforehand, Coach Dan O’Leary decided that all seniors, unless an exception was necessary, would be able to play. This decision was made to draw more attention to the nine seniors participating in this season of baseball.

Even with the seniors taking the field, the ending of the game was unpredictable. Both teams played well, but the Bulldogs ultimately beat Northgate, 10-0. The Bulldogs found a new excitement by having a successful final home game for the season.

“I did not get to play on senior night, but it was fun watching the seniors play. We were super excited about winning our last home game, and also sad that this was the last home game with the seniors,”  freshman Colton Blank said. “I am looking forward to finishing the season with the team and being able to play again next year.”

The baseball team wrapped up their season with their final game against Northgate, giving the Bulldogs the opportunity to reflect further on their progress from the beginning to end of this year. Despite a losing season, the baseball team’s successes still brought everyone together in a form of celebration, while their losses allowed them to spend more time supporting one another in practices.

“Looking back, the team could definitely improve on their overall hitting. But I am looking forward to seeing how [next year’s] team grows as a whole,” Lewis said.
