Black Friday shopping extravaganza

Some people may see it as a party; others may see it as an opportunity to buy items dirt-cheap. Opinions of Black Friday differ among those who love it, those who hate it and those who have to work on that dreaded day. Working through the dismay Due to all money-saving lovers, Miss Gudzan keeps herself busy. Before she is even on the clock, she is greeted by the long line of 100 people waiting outside Old Navy, as well as her 40 to 50 co-workers who are anticipating the moment when the doors open and the crowd comes in. All through the hustle and bustle, Miss Gudzan said that it is disappointing and frustrating to see the way people treat each other, by pushing and shoving. Miss Gudzan has also had her fair share of troubled times. One of her worst experiences was when a customer she was ringing up took her computer screen to check the price of a sweater. It can be very crazy during the wee hours of Black Friday at Old Navy, but as soon as 5 a.m. rolls along, things begin to simmer down. Believe it or not, but Miss Gudzan doesn’t mind working on Black Friday. “I love to work in it, but I would never shop in it. Ever,” Miss Gudzan said. It’s a chaotic time Waking up at 4 a.m., the long line of antsy people, scavenging for the exact item you saw in a magazine; there are a lot of downsides to Black Friday. Freshman Lauren Horner hates the chaos of Black Friday. “I’d have to say that my biggest pet peeve is the fact that it’s basically a mad house with a bunch of crazed ladies,” Horner said. Sometimes this event can bring out the worst people. The time that she went Black Friday shopping at DEB, which was later in the day – missing all the “crazy ladies,” – she still found good, reasonable discounts. Even though the selection was picked-over, she still found something worth buying for an incredibly low price. It doesn’t matter what time you go, shopping on Black Friday will still guarantee you good discounts, with a few exceptions to choice. “I just think Black Friday is overrated and slightly dangerous, but there are definitely perks to it,” Horner said. Small prices, big achievements As you’d expect from someone who loves pretty colors and cute clothes, Junior DeeDee Adams loves Black Friday shopping; it gives her a thrill that tickles her fancy. It’s a tradition that she, her mom and her sister participate in every year. They normally leave at midnight and devote the rest of their day to shopping. The first thing the girls shop for is electronics because Adams tends to find that there are electronic accessories that are much more affordable than they would be on a normal shopping day. But soon after, she is hastily walking up and down the aisles of the clothing department looking for nice, trendy clothes. While shopping, one of the funniest occurrences Adams had was when she witnessed two women fighting over a Barbie doll. After her fun and adventures are over, she is always glad she went. “You get the best deals, and I love spending time with my mom and sister,” Adams said.
