As winter hits its peak, snow falls and ice begins to form on the roads of Freedom and lots of other streets in the surrounding area. As the school district prepares for the worst, snow covers the side walks and caution on the roads becomes vital.

During Winter, There is many things to be happy about such as being with family for the Holidays, or playing outside when it snows. However When it comes to Driving to different places, the roads can get very icy and dangerous especially for new and inexperienced drivers. As more people get on the road for the winter to travel, or even go to school, the roads during this time tend to get wet and icy. With Pennsylvania being quite a hot spot for snow and ice, traveling in the winter time can mean lots of other people on the road as well, leading to heavy backups if drivers are not careful. Many PennDot drivers aim to keep the roads as dry as possible by pouring salt on roads an sidewalks.

Driving in cold weather and snow always makes it a bit more dangerous for everyone. For the novice driver, hitting a patch of ice and sliding can be scary if the driver does not understand how to control the car,” said Superintendent Ms. Workman

With the two-hour delay and a Flexible Instruction Day(FID) already used throughout this month, many of us wonder how beneficial these types of day can be. While at the comfort of your house during FID can help in the process of learning giving students a relaxing environment to study and get work done, furthermore having these days can prevent the snow days that add days to the end of the year extending the year, while still giving students and teachers a full year to teach and learn. As we all have experienced these days, much students throughout the district want to keep the regular school days on schedule to keep as much normalcy as possible.

“I think the snow and salt trucks do very well on all main roads. When it comes to back roads however, it is a much different case, they are rarely every plowed or salted, so they could improve there the most” said Senior Logan Bickerstaff

In the mornings, most student take the bus to school which is usually quite early in the morning, but most upperclassmen have an opportunity to get their license at the age of 16. And a chance to be able to drive to school, and every year, much of the up and coming juniors discover the new challenges when it comes to driving, especially within Winter time and the weather that comes with it. And when preparing for the morning drive to school scraping the ice and snow off your car and having the proper vision for driving is vital. Also keeping a level head while driving can help keep a calm environment not for yourself but to other drivers around you.

Teachers taught virtually. Principals then met with me, teachers and parents virtually.  The biggest change and impact on workers are with the custodians and maintenance workers,” said Ms. Workman
