Dylan Gardner: Album in review

From upbeat alternative style pop to slow, catchy love tunes, “Adventures in Real Time” has everything it needs in its 10 tracks to be a super popular debut album for the young Dylan Gardner.

Gardner, who is 17 years old, is a self-taught musician who plays guitar and originally began recording in his home, finding inspiration from music legends such as ‘The Beatles,’ ‘The Doors,’ ‘Bob Dylan’ and ‘The Rolling Stones.’

The whole album eludes to young love all while having a good time. The first track, “Let’s Get Started”, is a fantastic kick off to the whole thing. If his 3 million Spotify views don’t tell hint to his talent, then I don’t know what else can.

His music is wrapped in smooth rhythm and swinging beats that almost demand ridiculous amounts of dancing in the mirror which is good for his future fans considering he is a teen as well.

Gardner’s album has me close to speechless, “I think I’m falling for something/I don’t know what to think or what to say,” as he’s quoted singing in his fifth track, “I Think I’m Falling for Something”. We’re right with you, Dylan. How are teen girls going to hold themselves back once they get a taste of your catchy tunes and attractive face?

“I’ll be king of the world,” Gardner sings in his second track “Heroes Tonight”. He must know that his music is going to be a top hit. Why else would he be singing about being on top?

If you enjoy rocking out, Gardner’s fourth track, “Too Afraid to Love You”,  is perfect for any occasion. The catchy guitar chords are followed by a chorus of rhythmic clapping and fun drum beats. You’ll be off your feet in no time. If that doesn’t catch your attention, further tracks bring in brass such as the trumpet adding a bit of smooth, pop-like jazziness to his songs.

However, there are instances where Gardner’s voice takes a strange, high-pitched

tone, which may have to do with his age. This gives his songs a bit of a childish feel because you can tell his singing voice isn’t completely settled.

The only song I ultimately find a hindrance to the album is the last track, “Invincible”, where in the chorus it sounds more along the lines of “eat vegetables”. Nice try ,Dylan, but work on your pronunciation please.

The album, “Adventures in Real Time”, can be viewed on Spotify, Google Play and his bandcamp URL at dylangardner.bandcamp.com

All in all, I give “Adventures in Real Time” four and a half stars. His originality takes such a hold on you that it’s impossible to not finish listening to the addicting album.
