Fall is Here!

Although its arrival was a few weeks later than the planned calendar date, fall, or autumn, if you will, finally arrived! After having heavy sweaters and cozy scarves on deck for a month, ready for the first day the weather dips below 60 degrees, it’s time to bring them out of storage. Embrace the woolly and fleecy sleeves you’ve been longing for since the calendar turned to September! One of the greatest signs that fall’s arrival is near is the leaves that morph from the green of summer to every color fathomable between red and yellow. As fall treks on, the leaves gain a colorful momentum and eventually cascade to the ground. Sure, it’s a chore, but I thoroughly enjoy raking leaves in the fall. There’s something nice about being around the leaves and in the cold air for an afternoon, only to go inside and enjoy a cup of tea and nestle into the couch. Along with sweaters and outdoor chores, tea, books and movies are also substantially more enjoyable in the autumn months. Maybe the increase in enjoyment has to do with a need to feel warm and cozy, and my favorite way to feel that is with a blanket, book and cup of tea. The loveliest way to spend a Saturday night is by watching a favorite movie on the couch that may or may not stir up memories of fall. The beginning of fall is also the beginning of the holidays. The string of holidays starts off with Halloween and slowly gains momentum through the month of November with Thanksgiving and finally Christmas in December. With these holidays comes the promise of days home from school and a seemingly infinite amount of food, so you won’t be hungry until the next holiday rolls around. Embrace this last month of fall weather greatness by frolicking through piles of leaves with a fleecy sweater and mug of tea in hand!
