FHS nabs 8 Mancini’s

The FHS drama club took home a total of eight Mancini Awards for their spring performance of Footloose when they visited Geneva College on May 18. Freedom was nominated in 11 of the 13 categories in which a school may receive nominations. The Mancini Awards are a way for dedicated drama students to be recognized for all of the hard work, time and effort that they put into their school’s production. Freedom competed with 12 other schools to win different awards for their productions. “Heaven Help Me, I’m Free,” an ensemble number from Footloose , was chosen from all the songs in the show to be performed at the ceremony. “It’s a powerful number,” Band Director Keith Kovalic (KK) said. Regarding their awards in comparison to those won last year for the performance of Beauty and the Beast , KK said, “it’s not an apples to apples comparison.” Last year’s Disney fantasy included the drama club in a few different categories that Footloose didn’t, such as costuming. This year, they may have taken home fewer trophies, but in comparison to the last time Freedom performed Footloose, they doubled their awards.
