Freedom finds Fiddler

This year, the Drama Club will be performing a classic on stage at FHS. At of the beginning of October, Mr. Kovalic and his team chose “Fiddler on the Roof” as this year’s production. Each year, the Drama Club tries to one-up their previous show. Last year was “The Music Man,” which the community raved about for weeks even after the final curtain dropped. On May16, Geneva College hosted the Mancini Awards, at which Freedom took home 9 out of the possible 13 awards. Needless to say, Fiddler has pretty big shoes to fill. For many, it is much more than just the acting, singing and dancing that draws them to participate. It is about the bond the entire cast forms. Junior Nicole Cummins feels that the behind the scenes memories are the best part. From goofing off in between scenes to long nights of rehearsal, she says it is all worthwhile. “[The Drama Club’s production is] always one of the highlights of my year. We all feel so comfortable around each other; it really is a great experience.Everyone should consider auditioning at least once in their high school career,” Cummins said. A viewing of the musical was held Oct.17 in the auditorium for anyone interested or who simply just wanted to view the film to see what the show was all about. Auditions were held Oct. 27 and28 for anyone interested in performing on stage. Drama Club president Zach Malinak said knowing his time is almost up on Freedom’s stage is the most overwhelming feeling he has ever experienced. “The fact I went from having a small ensemble part to the lead role within a few years is amazing to me. It shows that hard work really does pay off,” Malinak said.
