Homecoming 2010

Homecoming: the tradition of welcoming back former faculty, residents, and alumni of an institution. This classic FHS tradition filled the halls with spirit throughout the week and set the tone for seniors in their last year at Freedom Area. The homecoming court consisted of 10 girls and 10 boys, all seniors. The 20 students were paraded at the homecoming bonfire on September 15, again at a pep rally before the home football game two days later, and for the last time during halftime at the game. At the pep rally the couples promoted school spirit by performed a dance and led a game of “Minute to Win it,” each picking a member of the audience to participate. Member of the court Jordan Cinderich said, “Things like this should happen more often; homecoming is forced on us. It would be better if the school had more things that would improve school spirit.” Tensions were high and excitement was at its peak as the homecoming king and queen from the class of 2010 took the field. Finally the results for the new placeholders were announced: Tyla Piehler was voted Homecoming Queen, and Christian Beck was voted Homecoming King for the class of 2011. Post-crowning, the new king described how he felt the moment his name was called: “Shocked actually, a more scared feeling than anything at first. It didn’t hit me until I was about to get the crown on my head.”
