Indoor Track: Tricky Section and Improvement

On Jan. 12, the indoor track team participated in their first meet of the season. “We all did great, we ran well and had great times. It was a blast,” Sophomore Tina Davis said. Before every meet, the team has a few things they do to prepare themselves. “Before the meets, we all usually set up our area and go find out when our events are. Since indoor and outdoor are different, we have different times to run,” Senior Kelsie Matlick said. Practices change for each member before a meet. “We cut back on miles and drink a lot of water,” Senior Wes Roberts said. This helps to put their muscles under less stress before a big race or event. Indoor track is beneficial to the team members because it not only allows them to compete in the off season, it also helps to prepare them for the upcoming outdoor season. “It’s a great warm-up and a way to stay in shape for the season,” Matlick said. Each member of the team sets goals for themselves to improve overall in the events. “I want to get into the finals for hurdles,” Davis said. While indoor track lasts until February, the team awaits the beginning of the outdoor track season, which starts in March. And congratulations to Dee Dee Adams who will be going to states.
