Just Dance: Drama club’s four-hour dance-a-thon raises hands and money

Freedom’s Drama Club is good at a lot of things: singing, acting and putting on yearly performances. But it costs money to put on a solid production, and luckily the Drama Club is able to put their skills to work in order to raise it. On Friday, Feb. 2, these students got together and danced their hearts out for four hours in a way that only kids with a passion for theatre know how. “It was intense,” Sophomore Zoe Sayre said. In the month prior, they stalked the town of Freedom and surrounding areas in search of those generous souls willing to dish out a few dollars worth of pledges. Some kids received a per-hour donation, while others got a flat rate just for showing up. Either way, the students did everything they could to get money, raising a little over $3,000. The Dance-a-thon, as it was coined, ran from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. At the beginning, the students participated in a hardcore hour of Zumba, which is a fast-paced workout that incorporates modern dance moves and some serious exercise routines. Hot music and fun moves made this hour fly by. “I could hardly even tell I was working out until I felt the sweat on my forehead,” Freshman Jennifer Wallis said. After Zumba hour, the students were treated to pizza and drinks and were able to chill out a bit, getting time to relax after their workout. For the rest of the night, the kids jammed out to a sweet selection of music chosen by DJs, Anthony Lang and Mason Fischer. Overall, it was a successful fundraiser, for more reasons than one. Ashlynd Robb said, “My favorite part was being able to just hang out with the musical kids. It definitely brought the whole club together.”
