New year, new you: Don’t let the past inhibit your future

Everyone has made one at some point in their lives: a promise to themselves that this is the year they are going to stick with their resolution. The majority of the people in the world can’t keep one simple promise to themselves. A New Year’s Resolution is a promise that you make to start doing good in your life or change something undesirable. The first day of every year marks a new beginning for you and the path you choose to go on. Just because the resolution that you made last year didn’t work out doesn’t mean that the ones you make in the future will also fail. To help make sure that the 2014 resolutions will be successful, use these steps: create realistic goals, find a partner, set a schedule and reward yourself.
When it comes to having a resolution, choose one that you know will be achievable. Having a goal that is unrealistic will create frustration and will encourage you to give up..
If your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, then you might want to set the goal to five pounds by the end of the year. Having a goal that is this small won’t be too much work. You might even lose those five pounds within the first couple of months. After losing those five pounds, just keep going. By the end of the year, who knows? You might end up losing 50 pounds.
For a new resolution, having a partner might help you accomplish what you are trying to change. This partner is not only there to make sure you aren’t doing this by yourself, but to push you to do better. You need someone that isn’t going to take it easy on you, but rather a person that is going to push you past your limits. When it comes to choosing your partner, he or she should support your resolutions and not take no for an answer. At the end of the year, this partner of yours should have made sure that the goal you chose is accomplished and that you are happy with the results.
Having a schedule may help you accomplish a resolution, such as with exercising. Breaking down your goal into steps will relieve some pressure on your end. Start off with two days per week, and increase it to more days when you feel ready for it. Whenever it comes to adding more days to your schedule, it would be best for you to have a day or two of rest. The main part is to have enough days put into the weekly schedule that you don’t lose focus.
Once you have set up a schedule, decide on how often you will reward yourself. A good way to reward yourself might be at the end of every month or so. Putting your rewards on your calendar will help you work harder throughout the month .The size of the reward depends on your resolution. For example, if you are working on losing weight, at the end of month you probably would eat something that you normally wouldn’t eat. Having these rewards will help motivate you further to reach your goal by the end of the year.
You can keep a promise to yourself. You can accomplish your 2014 resolutions and many other things that you are trying to change in your life. Just follow these simple steps, and remember that you don’t have to wait for a new year to make a new you.
