Many movie lovers try to find movies that have their favorite actors in them. Matthew Perry is someone that people look for in movies due to his comical and sarcastic nature. Perry was a very talented actor who acted in many different movies. He had his first debut in a 1988 film called ‘A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon’ when he was only 19 years old. Perry continued to thrive in the acting business, and he took on different roles in different movies. His biggest acting role was his role as Chandler in the show ‘Friends.’ Perry had a very successful acting career until his death that shocked the world on Oct. 28, 2023.
On Sept. 22, 1994, the sitcom ‘Friends’ came out and aired until May 6, 2004. People of all ages gathered around their televisions to watch ‘Friends’ every time it aired. ‘Friends’ had many great actors and actresses in it, such as: Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Perry. The show is about a group of young men and women who are figuring out life together. These friends were all very close, and felt like a family on and off the set. The cast of ‘Friends’ even had a reunion in 2021, where they relived their memories on the show.
“It feels like Chandler himself is dead each time I watch an episode. I almost want to just think that he’s still alive and that nothing really happened, just because it feels so weird seeing him in the episodes,” freshman Stella Haney said.
‘Friends’ is a comical sitcom that people of all ages enjoy. It is very popular among the students at Freedom as well. Students ranging from the ages of 14-18 all have friend groups of their own where they can relate to the show. Students also find comfort in the characters and their very different personalities. In the show, Ross is very smart, Monica likes to clean, Rachel likes to spend money, Joey likes to eat, Phoebe is a free spirit and Chandler is sarcastic. Students can relate to one or many of these six characters in different ways. Feeling a personal connection with one of these characters can motivate students to binge watch this show in order to feel accepted. The most popular character among the students here at Freedom is Chandler. Most students have a sarcastic or funny quality themselves, so they can relate and feel more connected to Chandler. Chandler is not only sarcastic, but caring and loyal to his friends as well. This is a quality that people of all ages tend to look for in a friend, because they trust that person for love and support.
“Chandler’s role on the show made it so much funnier to watch because he brought a relatable sense of sarcasm to it. He said things that I would say on a day to day basis, so it just makes the show that much better,” senior Logan Bickerstaff said.
