Outstanding young women

Attention all sophomore girls, have you ever dreamt of going to college and are in search of scholarships to help fund that dream? Well a simple solution would be to prepare apply for 2011 Outstanding Young Women of Pennsylvania scholarship fund. This scholarship is available to all junior girls, however application deadlines and interviews for 2010 juniors has already passed. Luckily, for FHS juniors Tyla Piehler, Lauren Reese, and Samantha Baker, winning the scholarship money may become a reality. These three young women, along with 17 others in the Beaver County area, qualify for the April 24, 2010 pageant at Beaver Area High School, sponsored by The Beaver Area Jaycees. In order to win the money, the judges are looking at five main areas of excellence; Scholarship and Achievement, Interview, Performing Arts, Aerobics and Fitness, and Presence and Presentation. They question the young women about anything from current events to simple questions about themselves. The twenty finalists that make it past the first interviews are then required to attend Sunday practices to work on the fitness routines they present the night of the show. This year, contestants will be doing a ten minute dance to the theme of Michael Jackson. The girls can win up to $12,000 in cash scholarships and prizes. The winner of the local contest then moves on to states and becomes eligible for more scholarship money and prizes.
