Parenting behind the scenes

There are a ton of things going on in Freedom and not all of them are accomplished by just students and teachers. Parents have a great deal to do with things going on at Freedom and they deserve our thanks. They have been silently helping out for years. Hardly anyone even notices their efforts but they do a lot of things to better help our school district.

In band, the moms are the ones who measure all the students for their band uniforms. The band dads are in charge of loading and unloading the band trailer in an organized way. The parents in the band boosters raise money for the band, organize the money for the band, organize the fundraisers for the students to raise money for their trips and provide snacks for the students at all of their events. They also organize and order all of the juniors’ letterman jackets and organize lunches at band camp.

“I really appreciate their efforts and that they support me in my activities,” Senior Robbie Raso said. His parents play an active part in the behind the scenes for chorus, band and musical.

During the duration of the musical’s production, some fathers built the sets, helped with concessions and lead the stage crew to success. Mothers helped measure for costumes, fix costumes when they don’t fit or break and organize meals and snacks for the students for rehearsals.

“It lets us know that there are people out there who care and support us,” Sophomore Aaron James said.

In soccer, they handle the warm-ups and bags. Mothers brought the students lunches for camp. They go to all the team’s games, run their concession stand and plan the banquet.  The parents buy the team shirts and make signs for them to support them.

In basketball, the parents are in charge of the concession stand. They even pay for half of the teams shoes. They provide food for the team before away games and most are at every game.

“I like to be involved in my children’s lives and by helping out I can let them know that I am there for them and support them in everything they do,” Mrs. Dana Daley said. Mrs. Daley is mother to Sophomore Devin Daley who is a member of the band, musical, basketball and DECA. She went on to say that she likes being involved because it allows her to know what is going on with the particular activity they are involved in so she doesn’t have to rely on her kids to give her the information.

There are parents from every aspect of the school that step up and help out their children. From a band parent to the sports’ parents, these parents show dedication not only to their children but to the school. Most of the parents do all of this without complaint, without being asked and sometimes without a simple thank you. They do so much for our school and sometimes are unappreciated. Thank you to all the parents that make an effort to help and improve of school district.
