Passion and Commitment on and off the Court

Starting at the end of June, you could find the girls’ volleyball team already beginning to prepare for the season. With this year’s season ending, the girl’s are proud to have given it their all. The team has been very optimistic because of their successful season. “We have gotten a lot better from last year, and you can really see improvement in the JV team,” Junior Nicole Lindsay said. One of the reasons this sport is so successful is because the girls are passionate about playing volleyball. “Any time I’m on the court is a good memory, and it feels good to play,” Captain Sayde Sowinski said. Winning games isn’t the only goal the team has this year, though. Sowinski wants to “see the team improve throughout the season and become more of a team.” The girls hope to learn from past mistakes to make sure they are able to move forward with their skills. With so much commitment to the sport, the girls are often together almost every day. “It’s nice because we’re all friends and there isn’t any drama, so it just makes it even more rewarding to play,” Lindsay said. Taylar McCoy, the only senior on the team this year, feels the same. “I’ll really miss the closeness of the team next year. Since there are only six of us playing at a time, you have to communicate well with the others, [which] has brought us all closer together, not only on the court, but everywhere.” “Having people cheering for us in the crowd gets us hyped up and playing for them,” Lindsay said. The team wants to see more students come support them, because Freedom’s support is something of which to be proud.
