Recognized and Not Forgotten

Heath Ledger may have been the greatest actor of our times. He always managed to cast himself in roles that stretched his acting abilities and posed the greatest challenge for him. He starred in many movies including Ten Things I Hate About You, The Dark Knight, and Brokeback Mountain. Sadly though, we must enjoy the material he has left us, because there will be no new work from this great actor. The Australian actor was found dead at his Manhattan apartment in January, aged 28. He had taken an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. It was rumored that the suicide was purposeful, because of the intensity of his latest role. Although, it was later proved wrong, still many believed that the essence of The Joker processed Ledger overtaking his existence and causing him to spiral into a deep depression. Either way, he managed to create a character that will remain timeless. He recently won the Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor for his role as The Joker in The new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan accepted Ledger’s posthumous award, and said he did so with "a mixture of sadness and incredible pride." His representation of this classic character was chilling to say the least. Ledger presented this calm yet mentally unstable character in a way which I have never seen from any actor before himself. Ledger and Bale, the actor that played Batman, demonstrated great chemistry in their cat and mouse games. The movie was completely unpredictable. The audience will find themselves trying to calculate The Jokers’ next move; it is completely impossible to understand the mind of this demented man. His mannerisms leave you repulsed, yet intrigued. Although it is a long movie, Ledger and Bale keep it very interesting and you never find a dull moment throughout the film. There is plenty of action, none of which is too over the top. The movie takes itself very seriously, even though it is based on comic book characters. Ledger most definitely out did himself with this film. He is a true artist when it comes to his acting. Everything seems meticulously planned, and Ledger’s character comes to life on the screen. Ledger is a true genius. He is never the same person in his films. When you are as versatile as Ledger, you know that you are the best of the best.
