Season Success

The indoor track season has come to an end. From December to February, the team prepared themselves for not only the indoor season, but also for outdoor track. There’s no time to lose; regular track conditioning started the following Monday after the team’s last winter meet. Two indoor track meets took place at Edinboro Indoor Track Facility during the season. Coaches Mr. Ed Shephard and Mr. Ryan Smith trained the team for their events. According to Sophomore Danny Conrad, the indoor track season is mostly just preparation for the outdoor season. The track team is so dedicated that they don’t take any breaks in between the indoor and outdoor season. The spring track season starts in March, while conditioning began at the beginning of February. Throwers, runners, jumpers and pole vaulters stay after school to work on their events. The Freedom High School track team has been successful in years past. The girls are six-time section champs. Sophomore Tina Davis’ goals for this year’s spring season are to qualify for WPIALS again and hopefully states as well. Davis also hopes to make 16 seconds or better for the 100 meter hurdles. “As a whole team, our biggest goal is to make it to WPIAL team finals and compete for the WPIAL Championship,” Senior Adam Shawger said. “For my event, discus, I do a lot of weight training and lifting,” Shawger said. “I also do a lot of stretching and try to improve my flexibility.” The track team will continue to practice and condition for the upcoming spring season.
