Softball team has high hopes for a good season

It’s spring time, and that means it’s time for another exciting season of Freedom softball. This year the team is once again coached by Brandi Burger, with Andrea Clear and Bill Boggs assisting. The returning seniors this year include Savannah Grossetti, Mackenzie Kemerer, Marissa Ritorto, Cassie Javens, and Katy Ross. Juniors to look out for this year include Kellie Mercier, Jocelynne Johnson, Kristi Tibolet, and Ashlie Elmer. All of these juniors are returning from last year’s season, and every single one of them has the potential to lead the team to its very first playoffs. “I’m hoping this year will be the first time ever!” says Mrs. Burger, who put much emphasis on the “ever”. She has faith that this year’s team could finally make its way to the playoffs. Last year’s record is 4-9, so the pressure is on for this year. To help the softball team, a new net was added to the gymnasium, which gives them a chance to practice inside and at the school instead of at a batting cage. Later in the season, they are planning on having a school-appropriate tailgate, where they are having “dogs for dogs”, which means that anyone who comes to the tailgate wearing a freedom bulldog shirt will get one free hotdog. The benefits from this tailgate will go to the softball team to help pay any funds. The softball team is hoping for a great season this year, so come out and offer your support.
