The boys’ and girls’ track teams both ended their winning seasons by attending the WPIAL Team Championship on May 12. Attendance by both boys and girls is a first in Freedom’s history. The WPIAL competition was the last event in which the team competed as a whole. Aside from this competition, the athletes only continued on an individual level. WPIAL Individual Qualifiers took place May 10. For each event, there is a certain requirement that must be surpassed for an individual athlete to qualify, such as a certain distance thrown. Once athletes meet this quota, up to three individual competitors can be sent to WPIAL Individual Qualifiers from Freedom in each event. If no athletes competing in a particular event qualify, then one person from FHS may still attend the competition. If any athletes advance from WPIAL Individual Qualifiers, they attend the WPIAL Individual meet. The top five competitors in every event advance to the state competition, which will be held at Shippensburg University. There were nine individual FHS athletes that made their way through the individual competitions to the state competition.
