Strong to the finish

Freedom’s football season comes to an end

The football team ended their regular season with a record of 5-5 which has been their best in a long time. After advancing to playoffs, where they faced the Washington Prexies, that game ended the season for the team as they lost 42-9.

The last regular season game, the team went up against North Catholic to prepare themselves for the playoff spot they earned earlier in the season. The team did not only lose that game, but they also lost another one of their key players. Running back and linebacker Cody Ross was injured during the matchup leaving the team without three of their starting players.

The other two players who were injured going into the playoff game were running back and defensive back Kyle Borgman and quarterback Zach Rosa. These three players were all set to be in the starting line-up, but were not able to participate due to injury. This left the Freedom Bulldogs trying to fill in these missing players with other players switching positions and new people on the starting line up.

Some of the offensive switches we saw take place was junior Jake Pail and senior Michael Muron switching in for running back. Senior Michael Keith also made an appearance on offense as wide receiver. The last change-up the offense made was freshman Cole Beck stepping in at quarterback.

Some of the defensive switches that had to be made in the Washington game was Pail being moved out to cornerback. They also brought in sophomore Noah Valles as linebacker and sophomore Joey Leasha on defensive line. Senior Seth Weismantle was brought off the defensive line and was moved back to linebacker.

“ It was really hard to have a week to completely change positions and try to get used to it. We have been trained all year for our positions, but when you have a week to try and change how you play, it’s hard,” said Keith regarding the changes in the line-up.

Though the switches were made, the Bulldogs lost against Washington 42-9 ending the season for the them.

“As a team we performed very well. The scoreboard didn’t reflect the game at all and I am proud to have played for the Bulldogs,” said Keith talking about the game against Washington.

The season may be over for this team, but the players who will be returning are ready for next season.

“We plan on making it to the playoffs for the third straight year which hasn’t been done in a very long time. We plan on perfecting our craft even more, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We plan on scoring a lot more to get where we want to be, and that is playoffs again,” said Pail for the next year season.

The coaching staff is still unclear for the next year season, but players are still ready for what is to come for next season.
