Swinging for the Frences

Baseball season has rolled around yet again, and the boys are working hard to make this their best season yet. Conditioning and mandatory practices both began in February. Batting, pitching and throwing practices are the main focus of after school training. “As a team we run, stretch and do our throwing warm ups,” Sophomore Patrick Baker said. "After that we break into infield or outfield for another throwing drill." The team trains to the best of their abilities for the season’s success. “We’ve been pretty solid the past few years; I would just say [that we need to] keep working on the fundamentals and making sure we do the little things right,” Senior Nick Schwab said. Last season the team made it one round into the playoffs, which according to Schwab is something the team would like to “go deeper into.” Junior Matt Feits said the athletes are planning on “just taking it one game at a time” because they have been working hard since November. Feits hopes this will take them in the right direction. “Anything short of last year would definitely be a disappointment. We’ve had a good team with a good foundation and coaching staff so we just need to keep working hard on the little things” Schwab said. “The only way to get there is hard work and dedication.” “Everyone on the team has been looking good so far but we can all improve on a lot before the season starts,” Schwab said. “I’m very excited for the upcoming season because we have a great group of players and coaches,” Junior Bobby Thompson said. “We should be back to the playoffs again this year. The only goal I have for the season is to help the team win in anyway possible and to always give 110 percent,” Thompson said. The team planned to begin their season March 12 with a scrimmage against Western Beaver, but the game was canceled by the opposing team.
