However, this is not the case. In fact, FHS editorial staff believes that the quality of the lunch hasgotten worse in just the last year alone. Students are allowed only one juiceper lunch now, compared to previous years where a student could get two juicesper lunch. Now to get a little extra somethingto drink it would cost an extra $.25, or even up to a dollar or more dependingon what you get. In the past we got two hot dogs per lunch, but now we only get one. Whathappened is this: we’re paying more for lunch, but we’re getting less. On a student’s salary, 180 days of lunch is a little too much toafford. Smart shoppers could spend lessmoney packing their lunches instead of buying from the cafeteria. There are a few things we thestudents can do to reduce some cost from lunches. Students could pack their lunch, but mostwould agree that it’s easier to just grab three dollars in the morning than itis to pack a whole lunch. Some students have trouble waking up early, so why not try packing a lunchthe night before? If the food in the cafeteria isn’t up to your liking on that day, bring afood that is. Bring snacks to school to last you through the day, such asgranola bars or other healthy snacks. There is also the vending machine, butthere are healthier and cheaper options. Lastly, it’s important to rememberthat if your family has financial problems, free and reduced lunch is anoption. For many years school lunches have not beenthe best food around and typically the prices have gone up. There really isn’tmuch students can do to change this, but there are quite a few tips in savingmoney and getting better food. Packing schoollunches instead of buying is usually a pretty popular choice along with reducedor free lunches.
