Celebrating seniors

Throughout their final year in high school, seniors are honored in numerous events. There is the Circle of Scholars Dinner, a Top 10 Dinner, Project Graduation, a trip to Cedar Point, a Senior BBQ, Senior Week and, of course, graduation.
The Circle of Scholars Dinner will be taking place on June 8 at Franzee’s & Javy’s, which is located in Ambridge. It is a dinner for graduating students to attend that have maintained a weighted average of 93 percent or higher throughout all their years at Freedom High School. These students will either graduate with a Magna Cum Laude or a Summa Cum Laude cord. Everyone is congratulated for maintaining such good grades and for having the dedication and determination to accomplish high school with their great achievements.
Another dinner is hosted for the top 10 seniors of the graduating class. It honors them and all the hard work they have done throughout their four years in high school.
During graduation, the top 10 students of the graduating class will be wearing their own unique cords to distinguish themselves from the rest of the graduates.
Project Graduation is an after-party for the graduation ceremony. Seniors have to buy a ticket to be able to attend the party. There will be things like a bouncy house in the gym, party hats and fun glasses to grab when you walk in the door, lots of food such as cookies and sandwiches, a mechanical bull, a rock climbing wall outside of the school, a watermelon eating contest, a baby picture guessing game, a game where you try to grab all the money flying around, artists to draw a picture of you and a photo booth to capture memories with your friends.
The seniors also took a class trip to Cedar Point on May 14. Originally, the cost was $40, but since not enough people signed up to go, the cost increased to cover the price of the bus. This field trip is a fun way to part with each other and say their final goodbyes before heading off to college.
An annual Senior BBQ is also held to celebrate all the graduating students and how far they have come since their first year at Freedom. It is filled with lots of food and snacks for the seniors to enjoy.
This year, Senior Week was shorter than expected. With only four days, the seniors tried their best to cram in their favorite categories to celebrate. The week included ‘Merica Monday, Twinning Tuesday, College Shirt Wednesday and Team Spirit Thursday.
Graduation will be held on June 10 at 7:00 p.m. for the 2015-2016 school year. With all the students dressed in red and white robes, their school spirit and pride is shown on that day more than ever. For many, it is a sad day because they will be moving on to college and saying their final goodbyes to most of their childhood friends. To others, it is a happy time to celebrate the lives they have planned ahead of themselves. Either way they decide to view graduation, it is a day that they will remember as they go farther and accomplish more.
